Kampot pepper has a Protected Geographical Indication from the Cambodian Government as well as from the European Union. This protects and designates the product so that pepper sold and advertised as Kampot Pepper must come from Kampot, Cambodia. Kampot pepper must also be grown using traditional methods, including the exclusive use of a natural fertiliser and no pesticides. These are the same regulations that cover many products around the world, e.g. Champagne from the Champagne region of France.

The region of Kampot is known for it's high quality product and desirable soil characteristics that are unique to the geographical area, this has always given Kampot Pepper the unique flavour and aroma. With this recognition, no other product is legally allowed to call itself "Kampot Pepper" if it is not produced within the designated zone that covers certain districts in Kampot and Kep Province in Cambodia.

Starling Farm is a member of the KPPA (Kampot Pepper Producers Association), and with our GI status, this guarantees you the highest quality product.
